Football players and cheerleaders are gearing up for the schedule ahead as the Emerald Coast Youth Sports Association prepares for football season.
According to Thomas Watson, president of the Brewton leagues, the participants are excited and ready for a good season.
The name of Emerald Coast Youth Sports Association is new for the teams in Brewton this year, according to Watson. This is a Florida based league that the Brewton teams have been a part of for many years. The name change this year should be around for years to come, he said.
The Brewton leagues are currently practicing with three teams. The Mini-Mites team is made up of young players from 6- to 9-years old. The Mites team is for 9- and 10-year-olds and the Midgets are made up of players from 11- to 12-years old.
The players will be encouraged by cheerleaders for each team.
The first game of the season will be a jamboree held at Northview on August 23 beginning at 9 a.m.
Although the cheerleader squads are full, boys can still register to play ball, Watson said.
To register for play a copy of the players birth certificate and a registration fee will be needed. Anyone can drop by to register during practice sessions held at O'Bannon Park weekday afternoons beginning at 5 p.m.
