It's time for homecoming again, and people are excited about seeing old friends and swapping tales from years gone by. Then of course there are the youngsters and students who are excited about the parade and football game.
Both T.R. Miller High School and W.S. Neal High School have scheduled their homecoming for the same day, Friday, Oct. 10, and that means that both Brewton and East Brewton will be crowded with people, especially during the parades and at the ball games that will be played that night.
W.S. Neal kicks off its festivities Thursday night with a pep rally at 6 p.m. and a bonfire at 6:30 p.m. Both of these events will take place on the back of the campus. Parade floats will be placed on Friday from 8 a.m. until 12:30 p.m. There is still time to enter floats in the parade. Call the school office for information.
The school will be open all day for visiting alumni and between 10 and 11 a.m. there will be a hospitality room for them in the teacher's lounge followed by a pep rally in the auditorium. Classes of '53, '58, '63, '68, '73, '78, '83, '88 and '93 will be honored.
There will be a pep rally on the school front lawn before the parade starts. The parade will go down Brandenburg Street to Hwy 41, turn left, cross the bridge, go to the railroad tracks, turn left on St. Joseph Street (east of the tracks), left on Lee Street and will disband near the Farmer's Exchange. Gates to the stadium will open at 6 p.m. and after a pregame ceremony at 6:55 p.m., the game will start at 7:30 p.m.
T.R. Miller festivities will start at 7 a.m. when floats are to begin reporting to the front of the school. A reception will be held for the alumni in a tent placed in front of the bandroom followed by a pep rally in the new gym where the queen and her court will be introduced. Classes of '38, '43, '53, '63, '68, '73, '78, '83, '88 and '93 will be the honored alumni.
The parade convoy will leave the school at 2 p.m. and form on Evergreen Avenue behind the First Baptist Church. It will travel down Evergreen to St. Joseph Street (west of the tracks), then to Belleville Avenue where it will turn left and stop in front of the courthouse where there will be a pep rally.
The pregame show will be at 7 p.m. and the alumni will be recognized followed by the homecoming game against Central High School of Hayneville. There will also be a homecoming dance after the game for T.R. Miller students and their guests at the Civic Center until 1 a.m.
