Woodfin Pierce Patterson

Mr. Woodfin Pierce Patterson, 90, died Friday, Nov. 14, 2003. He was a native of Clay County and a former resident of Brewton. He graduated from Clay County High School in 1931; later from Demorest, Ga. with a a.b. degree and from Auburn University with a m.s. degree. He served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific. He served as principal of Mellow Valley High School in Clay County, Five Points High School in Chambers County and as Superintendent of Schools in Geneva. In 1964-1965 he was Superintendent of Schools in Brewton. He was president of Jefferson Davis College from its inception in 1965 until his retirement in 1978. He was listed in Who's Who in American College and University Administration, Library of Alabama Lives and Men of Achievement. He had lived in Anniston for the past six years and was a member of First Methodist Church of Alexander City. He was preceded in death by his wife, Daisy Fuller Patterson.
He is survived by his son, Dr. Charles Woodfin Patterson of Anniston; two sisters, Myrtle Blevins and Gwendolyn Hitchcock, both of Ashland, Ala.; and two grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Sunday, Nov. 16, at 3:30 p.m. at LaFayette City Cemetery with Rev. Dr. William Wills officiating and Brown &Kughn Memory Chapel directing.
