Last year was a year of triumph for the Escambia County School Board and Brewton City Board of Education, and board members have earned the appreciation we give them this School Board Member Recognition Month.
The school boards and their superintendents Melvin Powell and Lynn Smith campaigned to secure funding for area schools, thereby securing more hope for the success of our children. "Success" is the common theme within the missions of these two school boards.
The Escambia County School Board believes that "every child can and should experience success at every level of his or her educational program," while the Brewton City Board of Education strives "to provide quality education through a safe, positive and creative environment that inspires students to success."
It's this dedication to the success of the county's schools and communities that we wish to show appreciation for in January.
Our thanks to Escambia County School Board Members Michael Goolsby, Danny Benjamin, Jack D. Crutchfield, Richard Hawthorne, Willie J. Grissett, Janice Ash and Charles H. Brooke, and to Brewton City School Board Members Stephanie Walker, Terrill Neal, Ola Ball, Lillie Dove and Keith Miller.
