Miller, Neal students vie for honor band positions

T.R. Miller High School and W.S. Neal High School band members traveled to Troy Saturday, Jan. 10 to compete for positions in the all-state and district honor bands.
W.S. Neal's Patrick Lowery was chosen to be part of the all-state band and Dixie Tucker was made an alternate. Both will be members of the district honor band.
Also from W.S. Neal, Jeremy Dantzler has been chosen as a member of the Alabama honor band.
Sixteen students from T.R. Miller were chosen for the honor band at the competition in Troy. Those students were Lauren Long, Scarlett Hetherington, Kaitlyn Griffin, Rachel Quick, Brittany Gibson, Sheena Daniels, Amber Burkett, Stephen Neal, Mitchell McMillan, Demetria Bradley, Natalie Sherrer, Donna Layton, James McCracken and Haley Rilling.
Of those students, McCracken, Sherrer, and Daniels were chosen for the all-state band, and Burkett, Neal and McMillan were chosen to be alternates.
More than 800 students competed for spots in the bands, Major said.
District honor band members will present a free concert to the public at Troy State University on Jan. 24, and all-state band members will perform for the public at Auburn University on April 24.
