Brewton YMCA to host Walker Tournament during March

The Brewton YMCA will be hosting the sixth annual Terry "Malt" Walker Basketball Tournament during March.
Play will be broken into four divisions. They include coed (for fourth grade and under), girls (seventh grade and under and 10th grade and under), boys (seventh grade and under and 10th grade and under) and women/men (11th grade and older).
The coed division has a March 4 registration deadline with a $10 entry fee per player. The boys 7th grade and under and 10th grade and under divisions have a March 4 deadline with a $15 entry fee per player.
The girls 7th grade and under and 10th grade and under division has a March 25 registration deadline and a $15 registration fee per player. The men's and women's division has a March 11 registration deadline and a $25 registration fee per player.
Coaches may pick up a registration package at the YMNCA front desk. Player registration must be turned in by a team's coach.
Each division requires four teams. There can be up to a maximum 12 players per team (in a five-on-five full-court format). Teams are guaranteed at least two games in a double elimination format. Tournament winners will receive individual trophies. All participants will receive a tournament t-shirt. Refunds will be provided if a division does not have the minimum four teams.
The playing schedule for the coed division has yet to be announced. The boys divisions will be played Macrh 8-13. The girls divisions will be played March 22-27. The women's and men's divisions will be played March 15-20.
There will be a $1 admission charge for fans. Y-members will be admitted free with presentation of their Y-card.

The Brewton Babe Ruth Baseball League has scheduled player evaluations for March 2 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the T.R. Miller High School Field.
Player registration will be held Tuesday and Thursday from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the T.R. Miller Field House.
All players must register. Any new player must show a birth certificate at registration.
T.R. Miller Lady Tigers sophomore Joy McCorvey passed Andrea Ward and moved into fifth place on the school's all-time career scoring chart Friday with her 19 points against Francis Marion.
That output brought McCorvey's career total to 990 points and to within 10 of 1,000. Ward had 980 points.
