Mr. Joseph Wayne Griffis, 53, died Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2004 in Jay. He was a native of McDavid, Fla. and a resident of Flomaton for the past 30 years. He attended the Gospel Light Temple and was preceded in death by his father, J.D. Griffis and his mother-in-law, Mazie Hanks.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Griffis of Flomaton; his mother, Ruby Lee Griffis of McDavid; a son, Johnny Wayne Griffis of Flomaton; a daughter, Misty Dawn Griffis of Flomaton; four brothers, Dennis Griffis, Danny Griffis, Tony Griffis and Gary Griffis, all of McDavid; two grandchildren and a special aunt, Della Godwin.
Funeral services were held Friday, Feb. 27, at 2 p.m. at the Eastside Chapel with Bro. Wallace Reed and Bro. Joe Eddie Mack officiating. Burial followed at Godwin Cemetery with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Chad Hanks, Howard Gilmore, Jeff Johnson, Jimmy Johnson, Mike Gilmore, Greg Sims, Rodney Griffis and Jamie Wafers. Honorary pallbearers were Keith Griffis and Billy Sims.
