Four pitchers combined on a one-hit shutout, as the T.R. Miller Tigers opened their campaign Monday with a 7-0 shutout over the visiting Jay Royals.
Starter Brad Lannom, who allowed the lone hit, and relievers Patrick Sorrells and Kurt Prater each worked two scoreless frames. Trent Davidson blanked Jay in the seventh inning.
T.R. Miller got all the offense it needed in the first inning when it scored its first two runs off an RBI single by Joseph Turner and an RBI double by Brad Lannom.
That lead grew to 5-0 with a three-run rally in the fourth inning. Davidson clubbed an RBI double, while Travis Holland drove in a pair with another two-bagger.
Holland and Sorrells both came through with RBI singles in the sixth inning to account for the final two runs.
Davidson had three of T.R. Miller's nine hits, while Holland and Lannom each had two.
"It was a great way to start the season. Our pitchers did an excellent job. They struck out seven and didn't walk any," T.R. Miller coach Jim Hart said. "We came up with some timely hits, especially Trent and Travis."
The Tigers' junior varsity also opened its season on a good note, as they ripped Jay 12-2 in five innings.
Jordan Cauley was the starting and winning hurler with three frames of work. He struck out four and did not allow any hits.
Wade McCall led the offense with three hits, while Cauley helped his own cause with a pair of safeties.
The Tigers play at Flomaton Thursday and at Montgomery Academy Saturday
