Mr. James Donald "Don" Taylor, 77, died Wednesday, April 21, 2004 in a local hospital. He was a native of Brewton and had lived for a number of years in Hendry County, Fla. where he retired as a captain with the Hendry County Sheriff's Department, before returning to Brewton in 1983. He was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Marine Corps. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Brewton.
He is survived by his wife, Maude Taylor of Brewton; a son, W.C. "Buster" Hough of Grove Hill; a daughter, Sandy English of Brewton; three brothers, Bill Taylor of Warsaw, Mo., Frank Taylor of Brewton and Bob Taylor of Roswell, Ga.; four sisters, Lucille Hawsey and Elizabeth Davis, both of Brewton, Nell Gerrard of Jacksonville, Fla. and Vonnie Helton of Columbia, Pa. and three grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 23, at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Brewton with Rev. Jack Fitts and Rev. Ron Headley officiating. Burial, with military honors, followed at Catawba Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were Bob Maxwell, Jack Taylor, Frank Scott, Tip Tarpley, Gary Robinson and Josh Young.
