Brewton marathoner Bill Thallemer will be running from Atmore to Brewton Monday to raise money for the sick child of a friend.
And when he's done, there will be a party waiting for him.
Thallemer's run -- which will begin at the Atmore campus of Jefferson Davis Community College and end at the Brewton campus -- will be celebrated with a party at the Tomato Caf/ in Brewton.
Festivities will begin at 10:30 a.m., and lunch will be served at 11:30. Musical group The Den of Thieves will provide entertainment beginning at 11:30.
Thallemer, who's Dean of Student Affairs at JDCC, is running from Atmore to Brewton to help Rebecca Ann Moore, the five-month-old daughter of Thad and Leigh Moore, who has suffered since birth from a hemangioma, which is sort of like a birthmark.
The condition has at times restricted Rebecca Ann's airways, and has caused her to be hospitalized for much of her young life. Treatments, undertaken in Boston and Mobile, have created a financial burden for the Moore family.
Helping to offset some of the costs is the purpose of Thallemer's run. Many throughout the community have pledged to support him by sponsoring his effort on a per-mile basis, and some have come forward with lump sums.
Also, funds raised at Monday's celebration at Tomato Caf/ will go toward the run.
Those who wish to contribute can do so by sending a tax-deductible contribution to Run for Rebecca Ann, c/o BankTrust of Brewton, P.O. Box 469, Brewton, AL 36427.
Thallemer, who has completed 17 marathons, will cover 35 miles on his journey from Atmore to Brewton. Thats longer than a marathon, which is 26.2 miles in length.
