The Glenn Miller Orchestra will perform in Jefferson Davis Community College's Patterson Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
The legendary Glenn Miller was among the most successful bandleaders of the 1930s and 40s. He disappeared in 1944 after taking off in a single-engine plane from England to precede his band to France, never to be seen again.
The Miller Estate authorized the formation of the present Glenn Miller Orchestra in 1956, and the 19-member band continues to play many of the original Miller arrangements. Additionally, they also play more modern selections in the big-band style, selecting tunes that lend themselves to the Miller style and sound.
There is no charge for the concert, which is being presented in memory of founding JDCC president Woodfin Patterson, who died last year. The event is sponsored by the Curtis Finlay Foundation in conjunction with the Brewton Arts Council. Look for more details in the Wednesday edition of The Brewton Standard.
