Alton A. "Bud" Harrison

Mr. Alton A. "Bud" Harrison, 87, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 2004. He was a native of Darlington, Fla. and a resident of Jay for many years. He served with the CCC, attended Clemson University and Auburn University and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was a teacher at Jay High School until his retirement in 1982. He was an active member of First Baptist Church of Jay, the Lions Club, Jay Masonic Lodge, Santa Rosa Retired Teachers Association, Jay American Legion and served on the board of directors of Santa Rosa Credit Union for 16 years.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Mattie Ruth Messer Harrison; a daughter, Marolyn Middleton of Jay; a son, Kerry Alton Harrison of Tifton, Ga.; three brothers, Oscar Harrison, Ulysses Harrison and Grady Harrison; a sister, Annie Belle Harrison; two grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, Sept. 9, at First Baptist Church of Jay with the Rev. Kenneth Harrison and the Rev. Chip Fox officiating. Burial, including Masonic rites, followed at Cora Cemetery with Jay Funeral Home directing. Active pallbearers were nephews and honorary pallbearers were former students and FFA members.
