Opportunity did not knock very often, but when it did the T.R. Miller Tigers B team answered in their 33-14 victory in their season opener at Monroe County Tuesday.
"I think we only ran three offensive plays the first half and only about 20 in the game," T.R. Miller coach Jamie Riggs said. "The players did a nice job of hanging in there in the first half even though Monroe County had the ball almost the entire time. Then in the second half we came up with some big plays to take the lead and pull away."
T.R. Miller, which trailed 14-13 at halftime, was able to stay within striking distance thanks to a five-yard touchdown run by Justin Gomez and a 54-yard punt return for a touchdown by Brice Martin. Reo Kirkland converted one of the two extra point attempts.
In the second half, T.R. Miller got a one-yard touchdown run by Rashad Taylor, a five-yard touchdown run by Gomez and a two-yard touchdown plunge by Baxley Raines. Kirkland added two PAT kicks.
T.R. Miller's next game is Monday at W.S. Neal at 6:30 p.m.
