Good Samaritans pop up in every situation. Some of them you know and some are complete strangers, but they all are good to see in a case of an emergency. That is just what you will find all over Brewton.
For instance, Mickey Baker is a Brewton native whose family lives here. When her heard about Hurricane Ivan, he was very concerned about their welfare, so he decided to come to Brewton to see what he could do. When some of his fellow workers heard what he had planned, they volunteered to come with him. They checked with Sheriff Grover Smith and Brewton Fire Chief Lawrence Weaver to make sure they were needed and would not be in the way. Then Baker, along with three former military men, loaded up with 60 gallons of gasoline, 30 gallons of diesel, chain saws and whatever they would need.
The Brewton Fire Department is putting the men up this weekend in appreciation of the work they are doing.
