This week's home game against Dale County was supposed to be Homecoming Week at W.S. Neal High School.
Due to school being out of session for nearly two weeks due to Hurricane Ivan, Homecoming has been postponed and rescheduled for October 29. The Blue Eagles will host Headland at 7:30 p.m. W.S. Neal was originally scheduled to play at Southern Choctaw that day, but the Alabama High School Athletic Association moved all week four games into the week 10 slot. The Blue Eagles will now play at Southern Choctaw the following week on November 5.
"We do have our queen chosen, but we don't have our court selected yet. That needs to be voted on by our students and we haven't been in session to do that. I'm sure a lot of the girls don't have their dresses yet. Probably a lot of people forgot that Homecoming was even supposed to be this week," W.S. Neal principal Phil Ellis said. "Some people may have adjusted their schedules to be here when Homecoming was supposed to be this week and may not like the rescheduling, but we're just not ready to have it at this time."
Ellis said it would be impossible to have the annual Homecoming parade under the current conditions.
"There are still trees down everywhere and there are still a lot of power lines down. Even with us pushing Homecoming back more than a month, I doubt if all the tree debris will be cleaned up in East Brewton even by then," Ellis said.
