Registration currently is underway for the 80 openings in Reach for Success: Learning to Read Through the Arts and Beyond, an after-school and Saturday program of Alabama State University Southern Normal.
Dr. Margaret Breland Bradley, executive director, said the program is expanding this year to include more students in grades one through eight.
Sessions are held from 3:30 p.m. until 5:30 p.m. on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, and from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Saturdays. Activities are learning opportunities and include reading, fine arts, visual arts, drama, violin, dance, choral music, and character education.
Through the activities, Dr. Bradley said, the program fosters academic growth, aesthetic development, social and ethical development and personal and physical development.
Registration is from 8:30 a.m. until 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, in Van Vorst Hall of the Southern Normal campus until the openings are filled. Scholarships and transportation are provided.
