United Fund helps Brewton Area YMCA respond creatively

After Hurricane Ivan ravashed Escambia County, leaving residents with no electricity and suspending school for days, the YMCA opened its doors to children.
Layton said the Y opened its doors to children for two hours each day, providing activities and giving parents and children a break from each other.
The YMCA is among the 15 agencies that will benefit from the $90,000 United Fund hopes to raise for 2005. United Fund asks citizens to give the equivalent of one hour's wages each month. Donations can be mailed to United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton at P.O. Box 34, Brewton, Al 36427.
