Two members of the Jefferson Davis Community College Lady Warhawks volleyball team have received postseason honors for the 2004 season.
Sonie Demko, a 5-4 freshman setter from Bay Minette, was selected to the Alabama Community College Conference State Tournament Team.
"That's a nice honor for a freshman. Sonie had a great tournament. She got to a lot of balls and kept them in play," JDCC coach Misti Nims said. "Sonie had a good overall season for us. She stepped right into the lineup as a freshman and became our primary setter."
Lucretia Merritt, was named to the All-Region 22 Team.
Merritt, a 5-9 sophomore middle hitter from Montgomery, led the Lady Warhawks in blocks for the season with 70 and was second on the squad in kills with 160.
"Lucretia had a great season for us and was a good sophomore leader. She played hurt, but she didn't let that stop her. She still played in every game," Nims said.
JDCC finished the season with a 7-18 record after a two-and-out performance at last week's state tournament held at Northwest Shoals.
The Lady Warhawks fell in the opening round to Wallace-Hanceville 30-28, 30-22, 30-20. They were eliminated in round two by Bevill State 30-14, 30-22, 30-20.
Nims, who also serves as Lady Warahwks softball coach, will hold a tryout session for both volleyball and softball at JDCC November 20.
Volleyball tryouts will be held at 11 a.m. Softball tryouts will follow at 2 p.m. Any current high school senior girl will be allowed to participate in the tryouts.
