Employees of Smurfit-Stone's Brewton mill hit a major milestone last weekend - working more than a million hours without a lost time injury.
Safety Manager Steve Irons said this is the second time in the past four years employees in Brewton have achieved this goal.
A lost-time injury is one that requires time away from work as part of the recovery process.
The local mill also has a great Recordable Case Rate for the current calendar year - 0.54. The Recordable Case Rate measures the number of injuries requiring treatment by a doctor. Irons said the Brewton mill's current rating is among the best in the Smurfit-Stone family of companies and within the paper manufacturing industry as a whole.
Irons said Smurfit-Stone employees are rewarded for reaching milestones such as this one with special dinners or shirts.
