Benevolent Fund helps most needy

After Hurricane Ivan ripped through Brewton, the Christian Community Benevolent Fund had more requests for help than ever before, Linda Johnston said.
The organization helps people with basic needs. For instance, one woman who came to the Christian Community Benevolent Fund had been without electricity for 20 months.
Christian Community Benevolent Fund is one of 15 agencies that will benefit from the $90,000 United Fund hopes to raise for 2005. United Fund asks citizens to give the equivalent of one hour's wages each month. Donations can be mailed to United Fund of Brewton and East Brewton at P.O. Box 34, Brewton, AL 36427.
