This time next year, local residents will have an opportunity to purchase Christmas cards featuring artwork designed by Brewton resident Frances Sellers.
Mrs. Sellers won The Brewton Community Association's first contest for a card design. While the organization originally planned to have the cards available this year, the project was postponed after Hurricane Ivan delayed voting.
Mrs. Sellers' art, along with the art of four other artists, was displayed at The Cracked Pot, where those interested could cast ballots for the art they would most like to see on a community Christmas card. The winning entrant received a certificate and a $250 gift certificate to The Cracked Pot.
Mrs. Sellers began drawing and painting after her son graduated from high school, she said.
She and her husband, Jerry, moved to Brewton from south Florida about two years ago.
The couple lived in a small town, but Disney World was growing toward them, she said.
When they made a decision to relocate, they looked at the Florida Panhandle and gave serious consideration to Fairhope, thinking the arts community would appeal to Mrs. Sellers.
They were in a hotel in Daphne when they picked up a brochure for the Country Club of Brewton.
The man in the yard was Bud Wallace. Before the conversation was over, he and his wife, Sharon, had filled Mr. and Mrs. Sellers in on the community and invited them to spend the night in their home.
