The U.S. Post Office expects to deliver 20 billion pieces of mail between Thanksgiving and Christmas.
While only a small portion of that will be processed through the Brewton Post Office, Postmaster Lynn Rives encourages customers to mail their packages early.
Rives said traffic has already picked up at the local Post Office.
The local office still has a plentiful supply of holiday stamps, but she encourages customers to buy them now.
Locally, Rives said, it's safe to mail Christmas cards right up until the last minute. When mailing to other parts of the country, "we're the mercy of the airplanes," she said.
Even though it's a busy time of the year, Rives said it's a fun time at the Post Office.
Nationally, the busiest mailing day is expected to be Monday, Dec. 20, with the busiest delivery day two days later.
