The Junior Chamber of Commerce of Brewton and East Brewton has raised approximately 45 percent of its goal for the Underprivileged Children's Shopping Tour. The Jaycees set $500 as a goal, hoping to take at least 75 children on a shopping tour to buy gifts for their friends.
Seven T.R. Miller High School cheerleaders were awarded an "M" during the annual football banquet at Marlene's Restaurant. They were Betty Anne LeBlanc, Anita McDowell, Suzanne Huxford, Yvonns Evans, and Mary Ella Langley, Jean Seale and Carolyn Martin.
Features at the Ritz Theatre in Brewton included Pay Milland and Hedy Lamarr in "Copper Canyon," John Derek and Barbara Rush in "Prince of Pirates," and John Wayne in "The High and the Mighty."PFC Thomas Hunter, whose wife, Lula, lives at 1208 St. Nicholas Ave., Brewton, recently spent a seven-day rest and recreation leave from his unit in Korea at Kobe, one of Japan's largest metropolitan areas.
Brewton librarian Mrs. Ida Liles and her story-telling program for youngsters was featured in today's paper.
