Betty Downing was judged winner in the Birmingham News oratorical contest at W.S. Neal t his week.
Mrs. Ethel Jackson announces that the Civic League will have its annual Community Christmas decorations contest again this year. Homes will be judged Monday night. Ribbons will be awarded for outside decorations; the interior of the home as seen from the outside; and door decorations.,
The Escambia County Courthouse is set to lose the spire from its steeple this week, as workmen from Security Roofing Co. of Mobile repair the roof to prevent leaking.
W.S. Neal's varsity basketball team opened the season with three victories.
Members of T.R. Miller's "B" team also opened their season with three wins. Team members shown included Ed Leigh McMillan, Jerry Newman, Mavry Weaver, Robert Shanks, Tommy Jennings, Charles Hillman, Jimmy Posey, Donald Martin, Earl Weaver, Buddy Lovelace and Jim Martin.
