Brewton area residents who had live Christmas trees are encouraged to bring the trees to the Brewton Fire Department on St. Nicholas Avenue for recycling.
Councilman Cary Barton, who chairs the recycling committee for the City of Brewton, said Thursday it's very important for the trees to be recycled.
FEMA officials told representatives of county government and municipalities within the county in a meeting on Dec. 14 that on Monday, Jan. 3, the Corps of Engineers will begin its final pass through the county collecting debris, and will not touch debris piles that include Christmas trees, they said.
The trees will be chipped, Barton said, and used for mulch in the city park.
