If you haven't already taken down your holiday decorations, make sure you take the time to take your live tree to the recycling pile located behind the Brewton Fire Department located on St. Nicholas Avenue.
Once there, the trees will be chipped and used as mulch in the city parks. This helps beautify our community and saves the city the expense of picking up trees or putting them in the landfill.
If you don't get your tree to the recycling pile, please don't add it to storm debris. FEMA and U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials have made it abundantly clear that adding items like Christmas trees to storm debris will prevent them from removing the debris, which only means heartache for the landowner in the longterm.
So take the time to recycle. It will help all parties involved.
