Mr. John Calvin Travis, 83, died on Wednesday, Dec. 23, 2004, at a Milton, Fla., hospital. He was a native of Escambia County and had lived here most of his life. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Navy. He was an elder in the Community of Christ Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Altha Mae Travis, and a son, Tony Calvin Travis.
He is survived by four daughters, Linda Faye Singleton of Marietta, Ga., Elizabeth Ann Salter, Kathy Kirby and Debi Steadman, all of East Brewton; two sisters, Cora Durden of Alpharetta, Ga., and Lynn Wixon of Milton, Fla.; 12 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Dec. 28, at 1 p.m. from the chapel of Cravers Funeral Home with Elder Wayne Morris and Elder Ed War officiating. Burial followed at Fort Crawford Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing.
