Franklin McNeal Cannon

Mr. Franklin McNeal Cannon, 77, died Wednesday, Jan. 26, 2005, in a Pensacola hospital. He was a native of DeFuniak Springs, Fla. and had been a resident of the Brewton area since 1967, coming from Atmore. He was a veteran of the Korean conflict serving with the U.S. Navy and was an educator and coach. He taught American History, was the basketball coach and served as Athletic Director at Jefferson Davis Community College for a number of years. He worked with Little League, was a member of A.E.A and a member of First Presbyterian Church in Brewton.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Tom Cannon of Brewton; three sons, Mickey (Lee) Cannon of Atmore, Steve Cannon of Pensacola, and Mark (Kathy) Cannon of Brewton; two half-brothers, John Hitson of Atlanta, Ga., and Larry Hitson of Fish River, Ala.; nine grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Graveside services were held Saturday, Jan. 29, at 3 p.m. at Union Cemetery with the Rev. John Mathieu officiating and Craver's Funeral Home directing. Pallbearers were his former basketball players, James Barnett, Floyd Adams, Lee Snyder, Bill Etheridge, James McDonald and Billy Conn Madison.
