Mr. James Howard Baker Sr., 76, died Monday, Feb. 21, 2005, in a Monroeville hospital after an extended illness. He was a native and life-long resident of Conecuh County. He was of the Pentecostal faith and a retired truck driver/dispatcher from T.R. Miller Mill Company with 37 years of service. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Rhodia Martin Baker.
He is survived by four sons, Jimmy (Dottie) Baker of Excel, Jasper (Wanda) Baker of Castleberry, Rodney (Cathy) Baker of Monroeville, and Royce (Jean) Baker of Brewton; two daughters, Sheila Baker (Kenneth) Nettles and Sharon Baker (Bill) Downing, both of Mexia; three sisters, Ollie Mae Bartlett of Castleberry, Ora Dell Janes of Monroeville and Pauline Shell of Decatur; one brother, John Baker of Pensacola; 13 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be Wednesday, Feb. 23, from 6 until 9 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 24, at 2 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Thomas Smith and the Rev. Kenneth Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at London Cemetery near Castleberry with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
