Mr. DeWitt Clifton "Clif" Steele Sr., 86, of Sylvania Street, died Friday, Feb. 25, 2005, in a local hospital after a brief illness. He was a native of Wawbeek, a former resident of Pensacola, Fla., and a long time resident of Brewton. He was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church, a U.S. Army veteran having served in World War II, a member of the Norris Lodge 301 and a retired farmer.
He is survived by his wife, Lillian Findley Steele of Brewton; a son, DeWitt Clifton (Jeanie) Steele Jr. of Pensacola, Fla.; two daughters, Suzanne King Smith of Cornelia Ga., and Janice Steele (Allen) Hague of Houston, Texas; one sister, Margaret Lancaster of San Antonio, Texas; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Richard C. Meloy officiating. Burial followed at Zion Hill Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
