Mr. Walter Lee "Sunny" James, 64, died Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2005, at his residence. He was a member of Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, serving 14 years. He was a 1958 graduate of Southern Normal and employed with the City of California until his illness.
He is survived by his mother, Bertha McConico; six children, Walter (Tasha) James Jr. of North Carolina, Michael, Wendy and Brandy James, all of Vallejo, Calif., Luckie and Chitea James of New Orleans; four brothers, William (Shirley) James and Len (Joyce) James, both of Newark, N.J., Joe (Eleanor) James of New Orleans and Gregory (Eunice) James of Orcutt, Calif.; three sisters, Ella Margaret (Benny) Pannell of Rahway, N.J., Betty James Bellamy of Brewton and Lillie P. (Arthur) Brazile of Boykin; one Goddaughter, Angel Fountain of Brewton; 41 nieces and nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at Baptist Hill Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. S.C. Tucker officiating. Burial followed at Baptist Hill Cemetery with Presley-Fluker Funeral Home directing.
