Life is full of adventures and Marc Edge is entering one of those chapters this spring as interim tennis coach at T.R. Miller.
Edge is filling in this season while the program's normal head coach, Tracie Whigham, is expecting a baby within a few weeks.
One thing that makes Edge's job easier is both the Tigers and Lady Tigers return most of their lineup from a year ago.
The Tigers will build around junior Hayes Martin and sophomore Stephen Neal, who played one-two in the lineup a year ago.
Sophomore Mitchell McMillan and freshman Marshall Bracken are probably in line for number three and four spots at this time.
Sophomore Karl Kast is probably slated for the number five spot as the season approaches.
That leaves two first-year players, senior Tye Walker and junior Matt Jordan, to compete for the sixth and final singles lineup spot.
The Lady Tigers' lineup is similar to the boys in that they return last year's number one and two players, juniors Catherine Stokes and Grace Miller. Stokes, at least for now, figures to hold on to that number one spot she had a year ago.
The T.R. Miller skipper said sophomore Kara Smith is making a strong push upwards in the lineup.
Senior Natalie Sherrer is also making a strong bid to climb the lineup ladder.
Senior Melissa Padgett is slated for the number five spot at this time.
Just like the boys, the Lady Tigers will turn to first-year players Michelle Lewis and Sharrica Wesley, both sophomores, for the sixth and final spot in the lineup.
Thrown in a sectional field that includes perennial state title contenders Bayside Acadmey and Houston Academy along with W.S. Neal, Edge knows that part of the season will be tough.
