Mr. Leroy Fuqua Sr., 78, of Nalty Road in the Bethel community, died Thursday, March 10, 2005, at a local hospital after a brief illness. He was a native and life-long resident of Escambia County, Ala. He was a member of Bethel Community Church, a U.S. Army veteran having served in the Korean conflict and a retired millwright from the construction industry. He was preceded in death by a son, Leroy Fuqua Jr. and two daughters, Mary Sue Fuqua Jordan and Margaret Fuqua Frazier.
He is survived by his wife, Jeanette Rhodes Fuqua of Brewton; two sons, David Fuqua of Athens, Ga., and John Paul Fuqua of Atlanta, Ga.; one daughter, Jeanie Fuqua Hall of Brewton; two brothers, John Leonard Fuqua of Georgia and Gary Fuqua of Brewton; three sisters, Dorothy Padgett and Christine Eiland, both of Brewton, and Lois Butts of Kansas; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Saturday, March 12, at 1 p.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Paul Shelly and the Rev. John Kempt officiating. Burial followed at Fuqua-Haveard Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
