Mrs. Julia Gwendolyn Hemmer Merritt Pape, 90, died Thursday, March 17, 2005, in a local hospital. She was a native and lifetime resident of Pensacola. She had been employed at Pensacola Junior College, a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and very active in her community. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Paul Benjamin Merritt Jr. and John Edward Pape; her brother, Milton Joseph Hemmer and her daughter, Julie Merritt Burke.
She is survived by her son, Paul B. Merritt III; her brother, Mott Richard Hemmer; a sister, Peggy Hemmer Blair, a step-daughter, Joanne Pape Kast; a special cousin, Betty Campododonico Gorecki; nine grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held March 20, from 3 to 5 p.m. at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola.
Funeral services will be held Monday, March 21, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father Peter McLaughlin officiating. Burial will follow at St. John Cemetery in Pensacola with Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel directing. Pallbearers will be nephew and cousins, Stephen Hemmer, Michael Hemmer, Joe Hemmer, Bill Blair, Bill Merrictt, Eddie Gorecki, Alex Gorecki and Jimmy Gorecki.
