It has become an all too familiar pattern for the W.S. Neal Blue Eagles baseball team this season.
W.S. Neal got another solid performance on the mound from Whitney Qualls Monday, but a lack of run support sent the Blue Eagles to a 4-2 setback to Donelson Christian Academy (Tenn.) in a game played at Milton (Fla.).
Donelson Christian Academy, which won the Tennessee private school division state championship last year, touched Qualls for two runs in the bottom of the first inning through a walk, an RBI triple and a sacrifice fly.
The Blue Eagles (3-7) cut that lead in half in the top of

the second inning. Jake Smith and Jared Cooper singled and Deric Smith walked to load the bases. Qualls also walked to force in a run.
A single, a passed ball and an RBI single enabled Donelson Christian to get that run back in the bottom of the third and extend its lead to 3-1.
W.S. Neal again pulled within a run in the top of the sixth inning when Brandon Douglas singled, Daniel Hodge was hit by a pitch and Spencer Williamson delivered an RBI single to make it 3-2.
A double, a passed ball and an RBI groundout in the bottom of the sixth enabled Donelson Christian to regain its original two-run lead.
The Blue Eagles travel to Flomaton Thursday for a 6:30 p.m. game. Junior varsity action starts at 4 p.m. W.S. Neal was supposed to play at UMS-Wright Friday, but that game has been cancelled.
