Both Brewton and East Brewton showed increases in sales tax collections for 1979, according to reports compiled by the city clerks. In Brewton, sales tax collections increased $153,469 over 1978. In East Brewton, sales tax collections showed a considerable increase, with an increase of $26,891 over 1978 collections.
Elaine Catoe has been promoted to the position of administrative assistant at First National Bank.
Students from Escambia County were among the graduates at Troy State University. Earning bachelor's degrees were William Allen Foster, Angela Rebecca Moore, Lillie Diana Samuel, Claudia Sanders, Gwynne Green Shell and Angela Faith Ward, all of the Brewton area.
Members of the Brewton Civic League ways and means committee planning the upcoming, "An Afternoon of Bridge" were Earline Older, Linda King, Marguerite Shell, Sherry Whitcomb, Mary Kaylor, Pegy Miller and Geraldine Horton.
