The W.S. Neal Blue Eagles baseball team finished up its portion of pool play at the Gulf Shores Tournament with a 1-3 record when it dropped its finale to the Robertsdale Golden Bears 11-8 Wednesday.
Justin Smith had one of the best offensive days in school history with three homeruns and five RBIs, but it all went for naught.
W.S. Neal had an 8-6 lead headed into the bottom of the sixth inning when Robertsdale's Cash Black hit a three-run double that sparked a five-run rally.
Robertsdale eventually won the pool and advanced to the championship game against Owensboro (Ky.) Catholic. That championship game was rained out both Thursday and Friday.
W.S. Neal dropped a 12-0, five-inning decision to Shoals Christian Tuesday.
The Blue Eagles were limited to just two hits by Shoals Christian hurler Greer Pruitt. Daniel Hodge had the lone extra base hit for the Blue Eagles, a double.
Whitney Qualls suffered the loss for W.S. Neal.
W.S. Neal (5-10) returns to Class 3A Area 1 action Monday when it hosts Clarke County at 4 p.m. The Blue Eagles (0-2 in Area 1 action) then have a contest at Milton (Fla.) Tuesday with a junior varsity game set for 4 p.m. and the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.
