Ms. Carolyn (Caroline) Liles, 85, died Wednesday, April 6, 2005. She was a native and lifelong resident of Brewton and a member of First Baptist Church of Brewton. She was a 1936 graduate of T.R. Miller High School, a 1940 graduate of the University of Montevallo (Alabama College) and received her master's degree from Columbia University. She was Miss Alabama College and a member of the Mortar Board, ODK and Alpha Gamma Delta. She served two years in World War II in Europe with the 9th Air Force Service and received the Bronze Service Star. She was a life-long teacher, having taught at Sullins College, Va., Louisiana State University and the University of Alabama. She was preceded in death by her sister, Sara Ruth Liles Sowell and a brother, Duncan Parker Liles Jr.
She is survived by a brother, Thomas Pershing Liles Sr.; several nieces and nephews, and many other relatives.
Graveside services were held Saturday, April 9, at 11:30 a.m. at Union Cemetery with Craver's Funeral Home directing.
