East Brewton's mayor and City Council have addressed several noise problems at recent meetings. Loud "boom boxes loud mufflers, loud car stereos and the loud sounds from the East Brewton Methodist Church's powerful electronic sound system were the main topics. (Noise: sound that leaves your property). The meetings are both interesting and poorly attended.
Councilman Henry Hooks announced that he'd never heard the church sounds-they play 2,800 times a year. Recently, as mayor pro-tem, Councilman Byron Palmer directed the clerk to change the minutes of the prior meeting to reflect that the noise complaint was "Ricky" Elliott, not David F. Elliott. The clerk corrected him, not the minutes.
At their last meeting, the council again addressed the noise ordinance 9.08.97.1
