Mrs. Voncille Hallford Barnes, 88, died Friday, April 15, 2005, at her residence after an extended illness. She was a native and life-long resident of Escambia County, Ala. She was a member of Cedar Hill Methodist Church and a retired bookkeeper. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Grover C. Jernigan; son, Grover Lavon Jernigan; sister, Johnnie Bell Batson; brother, James C. Halford; niece, Velera Halford Hamby; nephew, Charles Allen Hamby; and second husband, Willis Barnes.
She is survived by two sons, Rankin (Dorothy) Barnes of Satsuma and William (Sylvia( Barnes of Daphne; two daughters, Betty Jean (Charles) Curtis of Maryland, and Patricia Faye Platt of Durham, N.C.; one sister, Lillie (Morris) Stone of Brewton; a nephew, Gordon (Faye) Batson of Brewton; a niece, Margaret Stone of Mobile and a special friend, Roberta Floyd of Brewton.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 18, at 10 a.m. at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. George McClure officiating. Burial followed at Fort Crawford Cemetery with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing.
