It was supposed to be a final tune-up before this week's sectional meet and in some respects it was.
While the field event participants were able to get their work in, track events barely got started before the rains cut short Thursday's regular season finale for the T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal track teams.
Eight events were completed in boys competition, six in the field, where T.R. Miller nosed out W.S. Neal 59-52 for the top spot. Monroe County tallied five points and both Escambia County and Florala failed to score.
The Tigers and Blue Eagles split the first place winners with four each. T.R. Miller got triumphs from Damien Jackson in the high jump and javelin, Briddell Jones in the 110 meter high hurdles and its 3200 meter relay team.
W.S. Neal's Joe Bailey and Jonathan Alexander were both double winners. Bailey won the shot put and discus, while Alexander took the long jump and triple jump.
Only five events were completed in girls competition where W.S. Neal nosed out Monroe County 32-24 for the top spot. The host Lady Tigers scored 11 and Escambia County had four.
The Lady Blue Eagles won four of the events. Brittani Moton was a triple winner with victories in the shot put, discus and javelin. Jolesia Likely won the long jump.
T.R. Miller's lone win came from Jasmine Sanford in the triple jump.
Both T.R. Miller and W.S. Neal will compete in the Class 3A sectional meet to be held at Brewton Municipal Stadium Thursday. Events start at 10 a.m.
