A meeting was held at T.R. Miller High School Monday night to develop a plan for purchasing new band uniforms. The band has been wearing its current uniforms for 15 years. When director Ralph Beckett took over the band in 1947, there were only 11 students in the program, which has grown to include 106 students in the high school and elementary school.
Escambia County Sheriff Otis Emmons is widely traveled. The sheriff had just returned from Miami, where he picked up a suspect wanted in this county for robbery, when he left for Houston, Texas, to pick up a suspect in a burglary and grand larceny case.
Mrs. W. Emmett Brooks of this city was the principal speaker at the annual recognition day ceremonies for Red Cross volunteers held in Birmingham Tuesday morning.
Bonds in the amount of $85,000 which were authorized in a recent city election were sold this afternoon at the City Hall to the Citizens-Farmers &Merchants Bank of Brewton at a figure of par and 2.5 percent interest.
