Sheriff's officials announced Wednesday morning that an inmate walked away from his work release site late Tuesday evening.
Sheriff's deputies and investigators are looking for Steven Byerley, a 37-year-old white male who was incarcerated in the Escambia County Detention Center. He was in the detention center on a single charge of theft of property, officials said, and was approved for the work release program earlier this year.
An escape warrant has been issued for Byerley and sheriff's deputies are looking for him. McMullen added that if anyone knows where Byerley can be located, contact the Sheriff's Office at 809-0741.
