There were two main reasons why W.S. Neal Blue Eagles football coach Blaine Hathcock wanted Kevin Jordan to follow him from the Pell City High School program.
An obvious reason is the familiarity with Hathcock's work.
The other reason why Hathcock wanted Jordan to join his staff as the Blue Eagles new defensive coordinator may surprise some.
The 32-year-old Jordan, who graduated from Tallassee High School and Auburn University, spent the last three years at Pell City with Hathcock where he served as a defensive assistant coach. Prior to that Jordan had a one-year stint at McAdore High School and a three-year stint at Tallassee.
Jordan said some of his high school coaches influenced him to get into the coaching profession.
Jordan said there are various things he looks for in his players for his defensive schemes.
While offenses vary from opponent to opponent with schemes and personnel, Jordan said two of the more challenging systems to try and stop are the spread offense and wing-t.
Jordan admits it has been tough to install a new system into a program that is now on its third head coach in four years.

Jordan indicated the transition also works the other way.
