Rev. William Benjamin Leggett, 86, died Tuesday, June 7, 2005, in a local hospital. He was a native of Zion City, Ill., and had been a resident of Atmore for the past two years, coming from Brewton. He was a veteran of World War II, having served with the U.S. Army. He was an ordained minister and served as pastor for a number of years. His last pastorate was at Springhill Baptist Church in Munson. Fla. He was preceded in death by a son, William Edward Leggett.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Sue Leggett of Atmore; a son, Dale A. (Marianne) Leggett of Brewton; four stepsons, Floyd Harris and Wayne Harris, both of Atmore Calvin Harris of North Carolina and Thomas Harris of Bay Minette; three stepdaughters, Margie Harrell of Canoe, Maydell Beachman of Greenville, N.C., and Faye Ruggs of Liberty City, Ind.; one half-brother, Carl Jensen of Meadview, Ariz.; one half-sister, Elsie Malley of Milton, Fla.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and 19 step-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Thursday, June 9, at 3 p.m. at the chapel of Craver's Funeral Home with the Rev. Ronnie Hall and the Rev. Larry Davis officiating. Burial followed at Green Acres Memorial Gardens with Craver's Funeral Home directing.
