East Brewton council members and its mayor are hoping city engineers will be able to acquire a grant to build a new Little League park next to the existing park.
CDG Engineers, a company based out of Andalusia, is currently working on a grant that will allow a multi-use little league park to be built on a 40-acre lot adjacent to the R.T. Johnson Park.
If the full amount of the grant is awarded to the city, a walking track and tennis courts will accompany the Little League Park.
Currently, all electrical poles are in place on the vacant lot. The only criteria left to accomplish is to hook electricity up with the already existing poles to the electrical poles on the active park, city officials said.
Two fields are currently being played on at the R.T. Johnson Park - one is sanctioned for Little League while the other is sanctioned for Babe Ruth. The park also has a concession stand that plays a double role as a storage facility. Parking is minimal and spaces are available on grass near the field.
There are currently no tennis courts in East Brewton. When asked if there are a lot of tennis players in the area, Mayor Clark said that there if tennis courts were available people would come and play the sport.
W.S. Neal High School's tennis team currently practices at JDCC. Mayor Clark said that with a new tennis court so close, the team would be able to practice close to home.
