Mrs. Gussie S. Wilson, 86, died Tuesday, June 14, 2005, in Atmore. She was a native of Nokomis and a lifelong resident of Atmore. She was president of the Atmore Friendship Club, a member of the Joy Riders and American Legion. She attended West Side Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Wilson Sr.
She is survived by two sons, Charles D. (Jenny) Wilson of Belle Vista, Ark., and Floyd (Beth) Wilson, Jr. of Atmore; her daughter, Esther (Duane) Dortch of Bratt, Fla.; a brother, Joe Sanders of Atmore; a sister, Ruby Downey of DeFuniak Springs, Fla., four grandchildren, Cheryl Champion, Lori Curran, Angela Rowell and Jeremy Dortch, and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were hels Friday, June 17, at 11 a.m. at the Eastside Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Gladden Mothershed and the Rev. Mike Grindle officiating. Burial followed at Oak Hill Cemetery with Eastside Chapel Funeral Home directing.
Pallbearers were Randy Powell, Johnny Burkett, Jack Sharpless, Rodney Owens, Wesley Hughes and Alvin Owens. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Friendship Club, Regina Gohagin, Marie Owens, Ann Howell, Geneva Wearren, Alma Myles, Jean Myrick, Merle Bishop, Jo Stanley and Estelle Watts.
