Hurricane Dennis, which came ashore near Navarre Beach in Florida Sunday as a Category 4 storm, knocked out power in the Brewton area, but caused minimal damage.
"We dodged a bullet," Mayor Ted Jennings said Monday morning. "We were really blessed."
Alabama Power had 5,100 customers in the Brewton area out of power Monday morning, but began restoring power immediately. At noon on Monday, the company had not begun projecting when power would be restored.
Southern Pine said 90 percent of its customers were without power Monday morning. The company was assessing the damage and planned to have additional crews come in to assist with repairs beginning Monday.
Flomaton and Atmore did not fare as well as the Brewton area, with heavier damage reported there.
