Mary Esther Hammonds Smith, 89, of Baggett Circle, Brewton, died Saturday, July 16, 2005, at her residence following an extended illness. She was a native of Munson, Fla., and a long-time resident of Conecuh County, Ala., before moving to Brewton 11 years ago. Mrs. Smith was a member of Oliver-New Hopewell Baptist Church and she attended Appleton Free Will Baptist Church and was a homemaker.
She is survived by a son, Mike Smith, of Castleberry; two daughters, Joan Smith Joyner of East Brewton and Betty Jo Smith Cain of Brewton; a brother, Frank Hammonds of Baton Rouge, La.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, July 19, 2005, at Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Chad Cooper, the Rev. Robert Craig and Bro. Steve Pettis officiating. Burial followed in New Hopewell Cemetery in Castleberry with Williams Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Brewton directing.
