A convicted sex offender was arrested in the city limits Friday for failing to abide by the Sexual Notification Act.
Johnny Dillon Daw, 23, was arrested in the Brewton city limits on July 22. His registered address is listed as 3045 Mason Mill Pond Road in Brewton. In 2003, he was arrested for sexual abuse, first degree.
Sgt. Monte McGougin said Friday that concerned people who knew Daw notified officials that he was living at two separate residences.
McGougin said Daw was living at his father's house in Conecuh County and his girlfriend's house in Monroe County, and would travel into Brewton.
According to McGougin, officials were on the lookout for Daw. While they were on patrol, officers passed Daw driving his vehicle. He was arrested at the Tom Thumb gas station while he was pumping gas, McGougin said.
According to Alabama State Law, it is a Class C Felony for any criminal sex offender to violate any Alabama Community Notification Act, or to establish a legal residence or employment within 2,000 feet of any public or private school, day care center, or any other child care facility, or within 1,000 feet of any of his former victim (s) or where a person 18, years of age or younger resides.
McGougin said this is the third convicted sex offender to be charged for failing to abide by the Sexual Notification Act.
